Self-Operated Pressure Regulating Valve

Pilot-Operated · DN25–DN300 · PN16/PN40 · No External Power

Reguvale's self-operated pressure regulating valve uses the line fluid itself as the power medium - no electricity, no compressed air, no instrument air. A sensing diaphragm detects downstream pressure and modulates the plug to keep the setpoint stable against inlet pressure and flow swings.

Available in direct-acting (small sizes, simple duty) and pilot-operated (large sizes, high accuracy) configurations. Setpoint is field-adjustable via a single spring, and the regulator self-contains the entire control loop - ideal for remote pipelines, district heating stations and unmanned installations.

Standard sizes DN25–DN300 in PN16 / PN40 cover most district-heating, oilfield and long-distance pipeline duty. Stainless or alloy trim, and pressure-balanced bellows options are available on request.

Key Features

No External Power Required

Operates entirely from line-fluid energy - perfect for unmanned sites, district-heating stations and remote pipelines where power is unavailable.

Simple & Reliable

Single spring, one diaphragm and a pilot - few moving parts mean long service life and very low maintenance cost.

Pilot or Direct Acting

Direct-acting models cover small sizes and tight accuracy; pilot-operated designs handle large DN and high pressure drop with stable control.

Field-Adjustable Setpoint

Change the spring to retune the downstream pressure setpoint without removing the valve from the line.

Pressure-Balanced Plug

Bellows or pressure-balanced trim is available for high-pressure-drop service and to prevent seat wear.

Self-Contained Loop

No air lines, no signal cables, no PLC - the regulator is a complete control loop in one body.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does a self-operated pressure regulating valve do?

It keeps the downstream pressure at a fixed setpoint without needing electricity or compressed air - the line fluid itself powers the diaphragm that drives the plug.

Direct-acting or pilot-operated - which do I need?

Direct-acting suits small DN (typically ≤ DN50) and modest flow.
Pilot-operated is required for large DN, high flow or when you need tight accuracy under varying inlet pressure.

Where is a self-operated regulator typically installed?

District-heating substations, long-distance oil & gas pipelines, wellhead skids and any unmanned location where compressed air or instrument power is not available.

Applications & Use Cases

District Heating

Pressure-reducing stations between primary and secondary networks; substation control without instrument air.

Oil & Gas Pipelines

Long-distance crude, gas and product line pressure reduction at intermediate stations.

Steam Systems

Steam header pressure control in plant and shipboard service.

Building Pressure

Booster-set pressure control, pump-discharge stabiliser and rooftop equipment pressure limiting.
